Back pain is a modern epidemic. Eighty percent of Americans will experience disabling low back pain at least once during their lives! At any point, approximately six million Americans are in bed with back pain. Costing up to $50 billion each year due to medical bills, lost time from work, and compensation payments. Chiropractic is more cost effective than medical care with the results being long-term.
Chiropractors have helped millions of people with lower back
problems, often saving them from pain, disability, drugs, and even surgery in many cases. This may make the difference between a life of ease, health, and comfort or a life of pain, disease, and disability. Both the U.S. Government and the Canadian Researchers have found that chiropractic care for patients with lower back pain is superior to the medical care in terms of safety, scientific evidence of effectiveness, cost, and patient satisfaction.
Doctors of chiropractic relieve chronic and severe pain, both immediate and long-term, in half the time it takes medical physicians. There are now in excess of 60 scientific studies which demonstrate the value of manipulation. For patients with acute lower back symptoms without pain into the legs, the scientific evidence suggests spinal manipulation is effective in reducing pain and perhaps speeding recovery within the first month of symptoms. Why are the results so overwhelmingly in favor of chiropractic? It's because painkillers, muscle relaxers, Valium, braces, physical therapy, and surgery are not designed to correct subluxations the way chiropractic treatment can do it.
What Is Sciatica?
The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body. When it is inflamed, the condition is called sciatica. Not all leg pain is sciatica, but most all sciatica involves leg pain.
Sciatica sufferers often have severe pain along the sciatic nerve path, usually in the back of the legs and thighs, although sometimes the pain is felt in the ankle, foot, and toes. Occasionally, pain is felt on the front or side of the legs, in the hips, or even in both legs. Apart from pain, paraesthesia (pins and needles), burning, tingling, prickling, crawling sensations, or tenderness may be felt. Ironically, the painful leg might feel numb as well! Sciatica is very painful and will affect ones sleeping, sitting, walking, bending, turning, or standing up. These activities may be difficult or impossible.
Chiropractic And Sciatica
For decades, chiropractors and patients have observed the benefits of chiropractic spinal adjustments on those suffering from sciatica and leg pain. Many sciatica sufferers have experienced dramatic relief from their pain after chiropractic care. It is more successful than with traction, pain injections, or other commonly used treatments. Chiropractic care appears to have the most profound effect on sciatica when problems first occur. Even on those who have sought other medical treatment without results, chiropractic can provide excellent results. In many cases, it is never too late to enjoy the benefits of chiropractic care, but the earlier the better.
